The Power of Transformation
2023 was a year of change. I remember a year ago I was feeling run down, stagnated, and anxious. My creative practice was stalled. I was battling some food fears and restrictive eating habits. Each day I felt like I was just going through the motions of day to day life.
By the time the end of February came around, I decided something had to change. I couldn't feel this way anymore.
I began taking my life back by enrolling in a 6 month gut health program to help combat my food fears. As I went through this program, I experienced a shift both in my physical and mental well-being.
Slowly, the fear and anxiety around food began to dissipate. With each passing day, I felt more empowered and in control of my eating, reintroducing foods I once feared back into my diet. This journey wasn't just about overcoming food anxieties; it was about reclaiming my freedom and rediscovering joy in the simple act of eating.
Simultaneously, as I healed my relationship with food, my creative practice began to blossom again. I returned to my art studio, a space that once felt daunting now radiated with a sense of possibility and renewal. The blank canvas finally felt exciting.
I was no longer just going through the motions; I was creating with purpose and passion.
This rejuvenation of spirit and creativity led to the birth of the Transformation Collection. Each piece is a reflection of my journey over the past year. The canvases are filled with vibrant colors and dynamic textures, symbolizing the tumultuous yet beautiful process of change.
The butterfly motif, a recurrent theme in my work in this series, takes on new meaning in this collection. It represents not just transformation but also freedom – the freedom from fear, from stagnation, and the freedom to express and nourish oneself fully.
As 2023 progressed, my life and art continued to evolve.
The Transformation Collection grew, each piece a milestone in my journey. From mixed media explorations to acrylic and oil paintings, the collection showcases not just my artistic range but also the depth of my personal growth.

About Nicole Simmons
An emerging artist from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Nicole Simmons is currently represented by Farwell Gallery in McFarland, WI and Wheel of Light Studio in Halifax, PA. Her art can also be found on Artsy, where she is represented by the gallery ArtRewards.
She first started showing her work publicly in 2021 and has since participated in 17 virtual, local, and solo exhibitions. In 2022 she won a bronze award in the "Faces 2022" international juried painting competition hosted by Camelback Gallery. In January 2024 her work was published in the quarterly art magazine Circle Quarterly Art Review.
Nicole is a self-taught artist and enjoys painting abstract work, landscapes, and portraitures. Her work is collected by individuals around the world.
