A Reminder to Slow Down
Burn out. Many of us are no strangers to it—including myself. I’ll admit these last few years have hit a little bit differently though.
By early 2022, I found myself in the midst of one of my worst episodes of burn out that I’ve ever experienced.
Between the strain of the pandemic, launching my art business while still managing a full-time job, it felt like I was running on fumes.
I needed an escape, a reset button. Something to remind me that there was calm after the storm.
That reset came in the form of a trip to Maui in May 2022. I had visited the island before, but this time was different.
After being cooped up for so long, the beaches, the laid-back vibes, and the simple joy of watching my husband experience the island for the first time was a breath of fresh air.
The variety of the landscape and scenery also had me excited--the ocean and beaches coupled with the volcano and lush plant life had my creativity buzzing.
It was like waking up from a long sleep. I felt alive, inspired, and, most importantly, grounded and at peace.
Back home, with the memories of our vacation still fresh in my mind, I felt a drive I hadn't felt in months. I wanted to bottle up that feeling of peace and tranquility and share it.
That's how the Gentle Currents Collection came to life.
What's cool about this collection is it's still going. I add new pieces when I feel grounded and inspired. It's a reflection of life's ups and downs.
And it's a reminder for me—and hopefully for others—to slow down, appreciate the good moments, and draw strength from them.
In a world that often feels like it's going a mile a minute, this collection is my way of hitting pause, taking a breath, and appreciating the beauty around us.

About Nicole Simmons
An emerging artist from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Nicole Simmons is currently represented by Farwell Gallery in McFarland, WI and Wheel of Light Studio in Halifax, PA.
She first started showing her work publicly in 2021 and has since participated in 10 virtual, local, and solo exhibitions. In 2022 she won a bronze award in the "Faces 2022" international juried painting competition hosted by Camelback Gallery.
Nicole is a self-taught artist and enjoys painting abstract work, landscapes, and portraitures. Her work is collected by individuals around the world.
